Your time at college goes far beyond academics. We want you to have a rich and fulfilling social life too. Which is why we offer a wide variety of activities and ways to get involved on campus.
Our campus publications are the voice of Northland students. As a contributor to the student newspaper (Drifts), literary journal (Mosaic), or yearbook (Wedge), you’ll be able to hold a mirror up to the Northland College student body and reflect its words, images, music, and ideas back to the campus and the broader public. From editors to managers to contributors, these publications are entirely student-led and build community by bringing Northland’s student voice to life.
From acting to wildlife and a lot in between, we want you to find something that fuels you. We encourage you to get involved on campus and in the community. Northland student clubs offer experiences that will build on your interests and hopefully stretch you in unexpected ways too. The Northland Volunteer Program (NVP) assists you in becoming engaged in the community through a wide variety of service opportunities. We believe that service and volunteer experiences are essential components of a whole education. We also believe that an enduring spirit of service to others brings great personal satisfaction and that all varieties of selfless work on behalf of others build healthy, vibrant communities. There are a variety of opportunities to satisfy the Active Citizenship certification requirements. Additionally, this is a great way for clubs and organizations to address their community service hours, as well as be personally satisfying and look great on resumes. Email us to get involved.
The Northland College Student Association (NCSA) is our centralized student government organization. Founded in 1970, NCSA is the only student-run campus government in the state of Wisconsin that drafts their own budget and manages their own finances. We think that’s pretty cool.
NCSA coordinates concerts, lectures, dances, the Ashland Folk Festival, and many other community events throughout the year. NCSA supports and funds student clubs and organizations at Northland. They are dedicated to supporting student leadership, advocating for student needs, participating in community service, promoting sustainability, and celebrating community. We offer a variety of intramural sports and activities for you to engage in. Initiatives are student-led, and evolve and change with current interest. Examples include: ultimate frisbee, kickball, individuals and doubles tennis, capture the flag, broomball, board game night, soccer, basketball, flag and powder puff football, dodgeball, and volleyball. Intramurals are a great way to stay active and healthy while connecting with other students and community members. And, of course, they’re a lot of fun too!
A key component of your college experience will be working in areas that fuel you. This might include a work-study job, an internship, or an off-campus job in your field. Our robust job board helps you land as many opportunities as possible to further your growth.
