So where do we get all the great images for our poster? From folks like you! If you think you have a fantastic loon photo that would make a great poster image, submit your photos. The photo contest has attracted entrants from across the country and Canada!

Competition Rules & Guidelines

SUBJECT: Entries must contain a loon or loons (all loon species accepted) as their primary subject, either alone or in their native environments. Ethical wildlife photography is required.
ACCEPTABLE MEDIA: All photographs must be submitted as digital images. Hard-copy photographs will not be considered.
FILE REQUIREMENTS: Images should be saved in JPG or TIFF format. Images must be at least 22 inches wide by 18 inches high with a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. Images that do not meet these file specifications will be disqualified.
SUBMISSION: Complete the entry form on this page and indicate your method of file delivery (FTP or mail). Files must be clearly named to reflect the image title and photographer. A maximum of five entries may be submitted per entrant.
FTP ENTRIES: Files can be uploaded to an FTP file hosting service (e.g. Dropbox or WeTransfer). LoonWatch does not provide FTP service—files must be sent though your FTP. If submitting more than one entry, save all entries into a single folder and provide the url sharing link to that folder within the entry form on this page. Image files attached to an email will not be considered.
POSTAL ENTRIES: Save all entries on a single CD, USB storage device, or other external storage device. All entry materials (including digital storage devices) become property of LoonWatch and will not be returned. LoonWatch is not be responsible for the loss or damage of any images or digital storage devices submitted to the competition. Print a copy of the confirmation email you receive after submitting the entry form on this page and include it with your mail-in submission. Entries received without a form will not be considered. COPYRIGHT: By submitting files, entrants certify that they hold exclusive copyright to the submitted images and license Northland College and LoonWatch to use the submitted images for posters and other promotional items. Previously submitted or published work is acceptable.
JUDGING: All entries will be judged by the LoonWatch Advisory Council. Images will be judged on innovative handling of the subject, expression, accuracy, mood, concept, craftsmanship, and reproducibility. Entries must be postmarked on or before September 14, 2020. The winner will be notified by mail by November 30, 2020. In exchange for the use of winning artwork, the artist will receive prominent credit on the poster itself, 50 copies of the poster, and a cash award of $300 USD.
