• Burke Center researchers launch a buoy in Lake Namekagon to collect data on lake health

Lakes are incredibly dynamic ecosystems, changing by the hour and revealing patterns across seasons. The Northland College Mary Griggs Burke Center for Freshwater Innovation’s Buoy Project provides real-time water quality data from each lake in the Namekagon Chain. Below, you can view the dashboards for each of these buoys to see the current state of the lakes, as well as look at data trends through time.

We have been collecting data continuously at these locations since August 2023, even in winter under the ice. The data currently available on the website coincides with the open water periods when the buoys are deployed on the lakes. Look for updates on the Burke Center Buoy Project on our social media channels, including upcoming presentations throughout the region.
