To be considered for admission you must:

1. Complete the online application
2. Upload or email all secondary school academic records and final examinations results. They must be in color, English, and PDF format.
3. If you have taken any college/university level classes, upload or email transcripts from all institutions attended. They must be in color, English, and PDF format.
4. All students must supply an approved course-by-course evaluation of their academic records. The type of evaluation depends on the level of education attempted or achieved. Completed evaluations must be sent to Northland by the evaluation service directly to sholz@northland.edu.

Students can select any NACES approved credit evaluation service but Northland recommends using one of the following based on your level of education. To make sure you are selecting the most cost-effective service for your evaluation, contact Sophie Holz directly.

5. All international students applying to Northland MUST provide standardized test results. You may be exempt from this requirement, regardless of your country of origin, if your NACES-approved transcript evaluation shows proof of a B or better (United States grading scale) through 3 years of secondary school English and, if applicable, a B or better in College Writing 1 and/or College Writing 2 (US grading scale).

We are committed to providing significant financial assistance to qualified international students. Scholarships range from $25,500 to $29,500 per year, and a $3,000 per year work study award will be offered to all eligible students admitted to Northland College. Work study is an opportunity for students to earn money through part-time on- (and sometimes off-) campus jobs. Note: the dollar amounts you’re eligible for in work-study is not applied directly toward tuition nor is it disbursed to you directly in a lump sum. Instead, you must secure a work-study-eligible job and then work enough hours to earn that amount.

All international students (regardless of country of origin) must pay the first semester’s bill in full prior to their arrival on campus unless they have set up a payment plan through Flywire, as arranged with our Student Accounts office.  North American students, please contact Sophie Holz for more information.

Enrolled students must submit:

• Affidavit of Financial Support that declares proof of access to at least US$25,500 for the full year, even if you apply mid-year for the winter semester.
• Bank statement(s) or affidavit(s) from all sources of financial support
  • Document must be on bank letterhead, stamped and certified by bank in original stamp or seal
  • Document(s) must be in PDF format
  • The postdate on bank statement must be no older than August 1st, 2021. However, a more recent statement is preferred for verification.
  • Documents that are NOT acceptable:
    • screenshots
    • faxed documents
    • letters indicating enough funds are available without listing the actual amount available in the bank
    • retirement documents
    • letters indicating that the funds are inaccessible

After you have been admitted and submitted your Affidavit of Financial Support:

1. Confirm your enrollment at Northland College by submitting your $200 enrollment deposit (include refundable dates) to receive your I-20 form.
2. Pay the $350 Sevis Fee I-901 fee and keep the receipt. Click here for information on how to submit the SEVIS I-901 fee.
3. Have your I-20, your letter of admission, a copy of your financial aid offer, supporting financial documents, and receipt from I-901 fee with you for your interview with the embassy/consulate or for when you go through customs upon entry into the United States.
4. The embassy or consulate will inform you of your visa eligibility and will make arrangements for the issuance of your visa. The visa application process can sometimes take several weeks. Please plan ahead.

1. Notify Sophie Holz. when you receive your visa. We will inform you of arrival dates and help you with your travel plans. Do not purchase air tickets before contacting us.
2. Make travel arrangements to arrive in Duluth, Minnesota or Ironwood, Michigan. United Airlines serves Duluth through a connection in Chicago, Illinois. Delta Airlines serves Duluth through a connection in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Denver Air Connection offers direct flights between Ironwood and Chicago, IL and Ironwood and Minneapolis, MN.
3. Make arrangements for final bill payment and other personal financial arrangements. Contact Sophie Holz, International Admission Counselor, for details on wire transfer.

5. As a service for new students, we will pick you up at the Duluth or Ironwood airports and bring you to campus.
6. All new students must have their travel plans finalized no later than August 1 for Fall term and December 15 for Winter term.
