Timber Wolf Alliance Speakers Bureau

Science, outreach and education.

In 1987, only eighteen wolves were estimated to live in Wisconsin and fewer in Upper Michigan. That year, the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute began the Timber Wolf Alliance to assist twenty-one organizations and many private individuals in promoting wolf recovery in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula through public education, citizen science, and volunteer activities.

The Timber Wolf Alliance is committed to investigating the facts and relies on research to dispel myths and unfounded fears associated with wolves. TWA provides training in wolf biology and ecology, develops and disseminates educational materials on wolves, and supports volunteers to help with wolf monitoring efforts.

Mission

To use science-based information to promote an ecologically-functional wolf population within areas of suitable habitat, and promote human coexistence with emphasis on Michigan and Wisconsin.

Becoming a TWA Speaker

  • You should have attended a Timber Wolf Alliance Wolf Ecology Workshop within recent years. You can find information for the next workshop at https://www.northland.edu/event/wolf-ecology-conservation-certification-course/  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also offers these workshops at no cost.  Find more information at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/WildlifeHabitat/training.html.
  • Review the Wisconsin and Michigan speaker’s presentations. You can find those here (insert link). I have 2 PowerPoints that I would like linked here, but I am not sure how to do that. If I shared them with you, would that work? There is also good information that may be useful at https://timberwolfeducation.weebly.com/
  • Notify the Timber Wolf Alliance Coordinator, Jane Weber, at jweber@northland.edu and cc Alan Brew at abrew@northland.edu of your intention and interest.

Once you are comfortable with the material, you can begin booking speaking engagements. Each time you give a talk, share the details of that talk with the Timber Wolf Alliance Coordinator, jweber@northland.edu and cc abrew@northland.edu.  Please enter the information also at https://www.northland.edu/centers/soei/twa/speakers-bureau-report/.

Current Speakers

Please log each of your speaking engagements here.

When was the last time you attended a wolf ecology workshop? If it has been more than a few years, we ask that you sign up for and attend a wolf ecology workshop as soon as you can. Timber Wolf Alliance offers wolf ecology workshop; reach out to find out when the next one will be! The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also offers these workshops at no cost. Learn more.
