The Timber Wolf Alliance at Northland College is proud to celebrate Wolf Awareness Week, taking place from October 15 to 21, 2023, with events in Duluth, Minnesota, and Ashland, Wisconsin. This annual observance aims to raise awareness about wolves and their vital role in our ecosystem.
Building upon the rich tradition established by former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson’s proclamation of “Wisconsin Wolf Awareness Week” in 1990, the Timber Wolf Alliance has celebrated the week every year since.
“Wolf Awareness Week is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate the beauty and importance of wolves in our natural world,” said Timber Wolf Alliance Coordinator Melanie Michaels. “Through engaging events and educational activities, we hope to inspire a deeper connection and promote a sense of stewardship for these incredible predators.”
A Wolf Awareness Week poster, which serves as a platform combining original artwork showcasing wolves in their natural habitats with essential educational information, is produced every year. This year’s theme is the Endangered Species Act, which was adopted fifty years ago. The act has been critical for the revitalization of the nation’s wolf population.
