• Aquatics class electrofishing in stream

Water is among the essential resources for life so its quality and movement through ecosystems and the hydrologic cycle are fundamentally important for the quality of life. The water science major gives you all the skills and knowledge you need to understand the chemistry, biology, and movement of water in the environment.

You will study geologic, hydrologic, and atmospheric processes and how people are influenced by and have an impact on water quality. You will focus on the science of the occurrence, circulation, and distribution of surface water, ground water, lakes, oceans, and atmospheric water. You’ll understand the importance of water resources to all ecosystems and come to have a deep appreciation for how we are connected to each other and the Earth through water.
