Wisconsin Public Radio will begin broadcasting the 9th Annual Writers Read: Encounters. Two one-hour programs will begin airing on Friday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on WPR stations. The program features original works of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry from writers living in northern Wisconsin and the Twin Ports.
The selections will be aired the next two Fridays. The event was coordinated by Julie Buckles, director of communications at Northland College, in partnership with WPR.
Writers from the Chequamegon Bay area and Twin Ports read fiction, non-fiction and poetry before a live audience on Friday, Jan. 25. Judges Cynthia Belmont, professor of English at Northland College, Claire Duquette, former editor of the Ashland Daily Press, and Gina Kirsten, English instructor at Northland College, selected writers to read their submissions at Northland College in Ashland.
Readers include: Kyle Anholt, Julie Buckles, Dylan Couch, Sean Devlin, Carol Dunbar, Crystal Gibbins, Joel Glickman, Riley Kaiser, Grace Kilbane, Gina Kirsten, Angie Mason, Laurie Otis, Sheila Packa, Sue Schreiner, Ella Shively, JW Sutton, and Tara Wisnewski Janisch.
The stories and poetry will be broadcast on WPR stations 91.3 FM in Superior and 90.9 FM in Ashland at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. The program can also be heard at 7 p.m. on 104.7 FM in Washburn and 88.5 in the Twin Ports.
