Northland College Filmmaker in Residence Paulette Moore will be screening and discussing The Spirit of Standing Rock, her documentary featuring activists known as Water Protectors, this week in Washington D.C., Baltimore, Maryland, and Buffalo, New York
Water Protectors have stood with Standing Rock Sioux leaders in North Dakota to defend land and water from a $3.8 billion, 1,200-mile pipeline slated to run under Lake Oahe and the Missouri River. This documentary is a collection of soulful narratives from Water Protectors articulating what they believe are the defining world views, actions, and stories of our day.
Paulette Moore and author and YES! Magazine Co-Founder and Editor-at-large Sarah van Gelder created the documentary The Spirit of Standing Rock from their footage and reporting from Standing Rock camps gathered in the fall of 2016.
Buffalo State graduate Paulette Moore is a Kanien’kehaka (Mohawk) of mixed Native and British heritage and an enrolled member of Six Nations of the Grand Reserve in Ontario, Canada.
