Northland College is excited to announce that community members can now purchase memberships to the John N. Allen Fitness Center, marking a special reconnection with the Ashland community. Many residents may fondly remember when Northland’s facilities included a community swimming pool, a beloved resource for local people and families. Though the pool has since been transformed into the current fitness center, Northland is thrilled to welcome the community back to campus for fitness opportunities and recreation.
With a variety of membership options, Northland College invites individuals eighteen years or older to enjoy the amenities of the fitness center. Full memberships provide year-round access to the fitness center, bouldering wall, and Noon Ball program, while Noon Ball-only memberships are available for those who want to engage in midday basketball games during the week.
Membership Options
- Full Membership: Includes access to the fitness center, bouldering wall (subject to availability), and Noon Ball. Available for $50 per month or $500 annually, with special discounts for Northland alumni ($40 monthly, $400 annually).
- Noon Ball Membership: Allows access to Noon Ball (open basketball from 12–1 p.m., Monday through Friday). Available for $25 monthly or $250 annually.
“We understand how meaningful it was for the community to use our facilities in the past, and we are excited to welcome the community to Northland,” said Todd Pydo, chief operating officer at Northland College. “While the swimming pool may be a cherished memory, we’re excited to offer new ways for the Ashland community to stay active and connected with the College through the fitness center.”
This initiative is part of Northland College’s broader effort to re-engage with Ashland residents. As the College remains a cornerstone of the region, offering these memberships fosters a renewed connection between Northland and the community, supporting health and wellness while preserving the spirit of collaboration that has always existed between the College and local residents.
The fitness center is generally open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, making it easy for members to access the facilities.
Current Northland students, employees, and their families (partners and dependents over fourteen) can use the fitness center free of charge.
Please note, the John N. Allen Fitness Center is card access only and there is no information desk.
