Senior Mikaela Fischer, Northland College student, will hold a public reception for her senior exhibition “Art of Bacteria” on Tuesday, April 4, 4-6 p.m. at the Mary Van Evera Visual Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The exhibit features photographs of the bacterial paintings created over the past year. By transforming bacteria into something beautiful, Fischer has created a show that challenges the notion that bacteria is gross or dirty.
“My paintings are all inspired by the natural world, something that most people easily see as beautiful. By associating bacteria with nature as a whole, it makes it easier for viewers to see the beauty in both macro and micro nature,” Fischer said.
“I hope to inspire others to learn more about the beneficial bacteria in the world, as well as evoke conversations about how art and science can continue to be intertwined, creating captivating and educational works.”
“Art of Bacteria” opens April 1 and runs through April 8.
