New York native Justin Ross will begin August 1 as the next head men’s lacrosse coach at Northland College.
For the last four years, Ross has coached the Monroe Community College (MCC) men’s lacrosse program, leading his team to a 38-20 record during his tenure, including one regional championship game.
Prior to taking over as head coach, Ross served as the team’s defensive coordinator for five seasons and was assistant head coach in 2013. During his time as an assistant, MCC went 68-27 and advanced to two Region III championship games. During his time at MCC, Ross also helped more than 75 student-athletes graduate or move on to a four-year institution.
“I want to thank President Dr. Michael Miller, Athletic Director Kim Falkenhagen and Assistant Athletic Director Seamus Gregory for the opportunity to lead the men’s lacrosse program,” said Ross. “I am excited to be a part of the Northland College community.”
A native of Webster, New York, Ross began playing lacrosse at a young age. He attended Webster High School, where he helped lead the team to the Section V championship as a senior in 2003.
Ross then attended and played for Monroe Community College for two years, helping lead the Tribunes to the NJCAA national tournament Final Four in 2004. He would then go on to play at the Rochester Institute of Technology as a defensive midfielder, earning the Empire 8 Conference Sportsman of the Year award.
“We are really excited to have Justin joining our coaching staff,” said Falkenhagen. “He has an exemplary track record of recruiting high-character student athletes and ensuring they have success both on the field and in the classroom. His enthusiasm for coaching will mix extremely well with our entire athletic department.”
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution with 15 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
