Northland community,
This is a critical week in our fundraising appeal as we near the April 3 deadline. We continue to be heartened and inspired by the community in support of Northland – from future visions and plans to student and alumni stories to individual fundraising efforts and beyond. We also recognize the unease and uncertainty many are experiencing right now. As alumni and people with deep ties to Northland, we feel it too.
On Thursday, April 4, the President and members of the Board of Trustees will provide an update to the campus and community based on the completion of our fundraising appeal. In the meantime, we wanted to share a few key updates including steps we have been taking over the past few weeks and what is planned in the days ahead.
Fundraising and Other Efforts
Thank you again to the many who have already contributed and to those who are managing their own fundraising efforts on behalf of Northland. Last week, we shared that we have a long way to go to reach our goal of $12 million. As of Sunday, March 31, over $1 million has been raised from over 550 donors. This does not include the funds raised by other appeals.
- The Board and College Leadership have been actively exploring various opportunities to find a sustainable path forward, including:
- Ongoing direct outreach and appeals to individuals and organizations
- Meeting with several mission-aligned Colleges and Universities to explore partnership opportunities.
- Researching and vetting alternative funding sources such as loan opportunities and state and federal support.
- Reviewing proposals from several campus groups which include ideas about enrollment caps, alternative use of campus facilities like housing, and future roles for our Centers and Institutes.
Coming Up This Week
- On Monday, the Board is meeting to review the status of the appeal and other funding options, the College’s current financial position, and proposals including the ones created by our faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members.
- On Thursday, the Board will meet in the morning to review the outcomes of the fundraising campaign and other efforts underway to determine our path forward.
Thank you for the resilience, dedication, and unwavering support demonstrated during such a challenging time. We could not be more proud or grateful to be members of the Northland Community.
