The area of specialization is Indigenous history of the United States and/or North America. Preference will be given to applicants who can provide evidence of quality teaching and who place a value on liberal arts education and a commitment to social justice. We are committed to creating a diverse environment as an equal opportunity employer.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Teaching experience at the college level is required. An ABD doctoral candidacy or PhD in history, Native American studies, American studies, or a related field is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be able to teach introductory history and Native American studies courses and other upper-level undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. Applicants with additional foci in Native histories of Wisconsin, environmental history, and/or Indigenous gender studies are especially encouraged to apply.
Teaching responsibilities will include four to six courses each year (depending on applicant’s circumstances). This full-time appointment includes health benefits. With an enrollment of approximately five hundred students, Northland College offers unique teaching and research opportunities for its faculty because of our distinctively experiential brand of liberal arts education, our focus on the environment and sustainability, our location on Lake Superior, and our strong relationships with surrounding communities.
