The Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute’s Outdoor Pursuits program is partnering with Wilderness Medical Associates to host an eight-day Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course—the definitive wilderness course in medical training, leadership, and critical thinking for outdoor, low-resource, and remote professionals and leaders. The WFR program is the ideal medical training experience for leaders in remote areas including outdoor educators, guides, military, professional search and rescue teams, researchers, and those involved in disaster relief. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical. It includes the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary.
This course is open to Northland College students, faculty, and staff, as well as to the public. Course fee includes all instruction and course materials for all days of the course. All course participants must be fully vaccinated with one of the nationally accepted COVID-19 vaccines. The course meets in 169 Larson-Juhl Center for Science and the Environment.
