Individual Dance Style Exhibition
Each of three dancers will dance to a song for their particular style of dance, showcasing typical and unique attributes associated with each individual style. When finished, each dancer will introduce themselves and talk some about their particular style of dance, the music that accompanies their style, as well as their regalia, which has its own significance.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with each dancer as they cultivate their understanding of each dance style exhibited. In addition, those in attendance will begin to understand the importance of regalia to dancers and American Indian people alike as they see what goes in to gathering everything needed for a complete outfit.
Social Dances, Histories and Usage
There is a rich history of song and dance among American Indian and Indigenous people, and many dances have unique social uses. Demonstrations and invited participation from attendees will showcase the distinctive social patterns and interactions that originate from continued practice of our social customs and dances.
Just as it takes great skill to become a well-known championship dancer, it also takes years, sometimes a lifetime, for a singer to expand their repertoire enough to include songs that accompany each unique style of dance—it is a skill cultivated over a long period of time.
