Relax and recharge at the Forest Lodge Educational Campus for a meditation retreat. We’ll spend time in the woods meditating on loving kindness and practicing RAIN, an applied mindfulness tool especially useful in difficult situations. The schedule also includes some unstructured time in the woods and guided relaxation. Jenny Tumas, RYT 500, will be leading an optional chanting and yoga practices session during the retreat.
Loving Kindness Practice or Metta Practice is a practice rooted in the Buddhist tradition to help cultivate not only feelings of loving kindness but also loving and compassionate action. The practice consists of silently repeating phrases of loving kindness directed towards people you love, yourself, neutral people, people with whom you have difficulties, and all beings. The practice has not only been shown to increase feelings of well-being, but also to reduce unconscious bias which is at the root of so much injustice in the world.
RAIN (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) is especially helpful for skillfully dealing with painful situations. It was popularized by the beloved meditation teacher Tara Brach.
