Protecting, Restoring, and Reconnecting for the Next Generation: Addressing Emerging Issues in Great Lakes National Parks
Northland College, Alvord Theatre (Ashland, Wisconsin)
March 21–23, 2023
Join us for the Great Lakes Science for Parks Symposium, sponsored by Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, from March 21 to 23, 2023. The symposium theme is Protecting, Restoring, and Reconnecting for the Next Generation: Addressing Emerging Issues in Great Lakes National Parks.
Great Lakes national parks are dynamic and special places. We will host two and a half days of presentations, posters, and discussions highlighting natural and cultural resource science and management occurring in, around, or relevant to national parks in the Great Lakes region. We encourage presentations on all topics relevant to national parks and public lands, but particularly encourage science and management presentations on aquatic ecology, climate impacts, cultural resources, and ecosystem responses to visitor use, forest health, and invasive species. This symposium will provide an opportunity for attendees to share new findings, exchange best management practices, and coordinate future research and management efforts across the region.
Attendees will be able to learn and participate in a variety of presentation types:
- A poster session will be held on the afternoon of March 23
- 20 minute talks contributed by attendees presenting their research and/or management results
- 5 minute talks sharing updates and ideas
- Roundtable discussion on common themes and future needs
This event is open to researchers, public lands managers, undergraduate and graduate students, and teachers. The registration fee is $100 for everyone except students. Graduate student registration is $50; undergraduate students can register for free.
Coffee and drinks will be provided throughout each day; lunch is included Wednesday and Thursday with paid registrations. General questions about registration should be directed to soei@northland.edu. Questions about NPS staff registrations should be directed to glkn@nps.gov.
