Attention all current students, rising sophomores and up! SOEI Outdoor Pursuits is offering a FREE stewardship and adventure opportunity for students who are looking kickoff their Fall Semester right in 2024. Join us for this unique nine-day experience!
You’ll spend your first four and a half days engaging in trail building and ecological stewardship projects with your leaders and US Forest Service personnel. You’ll basecamp near your project site, hike to the project each morning, and then enjoy returning to camp for dinner and campfire conversations each evening. Develop skills and project experience which can help enhance your marketability for work with federal land-management agencies, all while giving back to the local resource so many of us enjoy.
After your week of stewardship work, you and your field crew will choose which adventure you will embark on to celebrate a job well done. Choices for your four-day, three-night trip include a river canoeing expedition on the Namekagon National Scenic River, a backpacking expedition along the North Country National Scenic Trail, or a lodge-based adventure sampler at Lowenwood (formerly Conserve School) bordering the Upper Peninsula of Michigan’s Sylvania Wilderness.
We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to gain professional stewardship skills, build community with fellow students, and rejuvenate your spirit wandering through the Northwoods before you jump into the school year. We can’t wait to get out there with you.
Space is limited and spots will fill fast.
We would like to thank the USDA Forest Service for offsetting the full cost of facilitating this SOEI trip ($875.00/person) through a generous grant.
This program is open to Northland College students who will be a sophomore or above in the 2023–24 academic year.
Registration has closed. We hope you can join us on a future outing!
