Attention rising sophomores! SOEI Outdoor Pursuits is offering a free stewardship and adventure opportunity for students who have just completed their first year at Northland. Join us for this unique experience!
You’ll spend your first week engaging in trail building and ecological stewardship projects with your leaders and Forest Service personnel. You’ll basecamp near your project site, hike to the project each morning, and then enjoy returning to camp for dinner and campfire conversations each evening. Develop skills and project experience which can help enhance your marketability for work with federal land management agencies, all while giving back to the local resource.
After your week of stewardship work, you and your field crew will choose which adventure you will embark on to celebrate a job well done. Choices include a four-day-long canoe camping expedition in the Upper Peninsula’s Sylvania Wilderness (a mini Boundary Waters on the border with Wisconsin!) or a four-day-long rock climbing expedition on Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior!
Space is limited and spots will fill fast. Registration closes Friday, April 22 at 11:59 p.m. or when all spots are filled.
The full cost of facilitating this trip ($875.00/person) has been offset by a generous grant from the USDA Forest Service. Thanks to this partnership, participation is completely free.
There will be a pre-trip meeting in the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute on Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m. This trip will depart from the SOEI on Sunday, August 28 and will return on September 5.
