The theme of the season’s first orchestra concert is Dancing with Death. It features a variety of dance music, waltzes, Cuban dance and a good ol’ American hoedown. In the spirit of the Halloween season, the theme of death (or rather escaping it) is reflected in the concert’s other selections, which include Camille Saint-Saëns’ tone poem Danse Macabre. Set to the text of French poet Henri Cazali’s poem, it vividly describes the legend of Halloween night when Death, represented by a solo violin, summons all to dance with the dead on Hallows Eve.
