Why Northland?

I teach at Northland because I believe it is uniquely positioned to help young people learn about different ways of building community.

Courses

I typically teach voice lessons, and these course are special to me because I get to learn about students’ musical interests in detail. Whether a student is into songwriting, music videos, foreign language songs, or casual singing around the house, we both learn through the process of having voice lessons that cater to the student’s unique musical interests.

Events

At the end of every semester, we have a voice recital where students have the opportunity to share some of the songs they have been working on during lessons. I also perform regularly in the Chequamegon Bay area under the name ‘Spoons for the People.’

Student Involvement

I like to incorporate improvisation into voice lessons and help students understand that singing relies on a connection between the brain and the body. Rather than prescribe what is good or bad singing, I attempt to guide students through an exploration of different tones they can make, with an emphasis on artistry and efficiency of the vocal mechanism.

Interests

I enjoy cross-country skiing, playing Hive, and experimenting in the kitchen!
