MFA Creative Writing, The New School
BA English and Political Science, Northern Michigan University
I was born in southern Wisconsin and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where I also attended Northern Michigan University. I spent a few years in New York City, earning my master's degree and working in everything from graduate admissions to marketing and PR for a luxury menswear brand. I missed Lake Superior too much, however. I've been back in the Midwest—and been at Northland—since August 2015.
I love the way our natural setting informs every aspect of the school, from the curriculum to the food. I love the friendliness and the sheer passion on display here. I love the way the students and faculty support one another, and the way the surrounding community supports the College as a whole. But perhaps more than anything, I love working less than a mile from the beach.
I work very closely with applicants from Madison and the southwestern corner of Wisconsin, and also from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. That means regular conversations by phone, email, and Skype; it means visits to high schools, and individual meetings with students and their parents at coffee houses or on campus. From application to course registration, I do whatever I can to help students move from high school to college.
First and foremost, I'm a writer and reader. I also enjoy sailing, scuba diving, road biking, soccer, and cooking Italian food. I love to travel and once spent a semester in Russia. Last but not least, I have a houseplant addiction and one angry hedgehog named Finn. It's a wonderful life!
