Northland College graduates in cap and gown

The Native American Student Association (NASA) brings cultural awareness to campus and the surrounding communities. In addition to providing support to native and non-native students alike through community outreach activities, talking circles, cultural education and sharing, and peer mentorship, this student organization hosts several events throughout the year. This meeting takes place in 114B Mead Hall, the student lounge for the Northland College Indigenous Cultures Center.

April Stone is a self-taught black ash basket weaver, mother, and member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. A 1995 Northland College alumna, April has spent the past two decades teaching and refining her basket weaving skills, establishing an awareness through harvesting in the natural world, and working to widen her traditional ecological knowledge base through reconnecting with those items made and used in earlier times.
