We believe that life outside of the classroom is just as important as in. That’s why we strive to provide a healthy living environment where you can expand and grow as an individual. Living on campus lets you connect in a deeper way with the Northland community and imparts a sense of place, stability, and stewardship.
Our on-campus residential communities house approximately 80 percent of the Northland student body. Each residence hall has a trained student staff including an administrative resident advisor (ARA) and team of resident advisors (RAs) who live in the halls and work to organize programming, serve as resources, and provide guidance to residents.
The McLean Environmental Living and Learning Community (MELLC) has been lauded nation-wide for its environmental design. Featuring sustainable architecture, a 120’ wind turbine, photovoltaic arrays, and a greenhouse, this co-educational residence hall is a campus favorite. It also overlooks the Mino Aki garden.
The MELLC boasts a wide variety of room styles, including conventional double rooms, suites with a shared bath, and apartments. The residence hall provides ample social space with four kitchens, four lounges, and five study/meeting rooms. The MELLC is primarily home to students who are in their second year or beyond at Northland.
Approximate room dimensions: 11.5 feet by 16.5 feet.
Fenenga Hall is our largest residence hall, housing approximately 130 residents. This building is located on the north edge of campus, right next to the Center for Science and the Environment and about one block from the Ponzio Campus Center. In order to develop a strong community and foundation for success at Northland, the majority of first-year students are housed in Fenenga Hall.
Due to its size and number of occupants, Fenenga is a very active and lively building with lots of activities and energy present at all times. Its ravine-facing rooms are popular options for students who want a “naturescape” view.
Approximate room dimensions: 11 feet by 15 feet.
Mead Hall is our smallest residence hall and houses approximately thirty residents. Mead is centrally located near the Ponzio Campus Center and overlooks the Campus Mall. Mead is primarily home to students who are in their second year or beyond at Northland.
Because of Mead’s size, this residence hall is a popular and unique living option where students enjoy a close-knit community.
McMillan Hall is centrally located on campus and is adjacent to the Kendrigan Gymnasium and workout facilities, Dexter Library, and the Ponzio Campus Center. McMillan houses approximately 115 students.
McMillan is primarily home to students who are in their second year or beyond at Northland.
Approximate room dimensions: 11 feet by 15 feet.
Built in 1926 and housing approximately eighty students, Memorial Hall is our oldest residence hall and has a rich history on campus. This three-story building overlooks the Mino Aki Production Garden and is centrally located adjacent to both Dexter Library and Wheeler Hall.
Memorial Hall’s historic charm, fireplace lounge, and uniquely-shaped rooms make it a favorite for many Northland students. Memorial is primarily home to students who are in their second year or beyond at Northland.
Room dimensions in Memorial vary given the unique design and history of the building.
The Townhouses, located adjacent to the Ponzio Campus Center, provide an on-campus housing option for upper-class and nontraditional students.
Each townhouse has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, living/community area, and are fully furnished.
