Covering the cost of college almost always comes from a combination of sources. Beyond institutional and federal aid, we encourage you to consider the following.

Redirected Expenses
Families often make the mistake of basing college affordability on this year’s budget. That misses how expensive it is to have a high school senior in the house. Economists suggest a savings of at least $3,000 per year when you consider everything from food to water bills to car insurance.

Tax Credits
While you should consult a tax professional to verify eligibility, the American Opportunity Tax Credit could provide your family with up to $2,500 per year to put toward college.

Outside Scholarships
Many scholarships are offered by private sources such as fraternal and religious organizations, labor unions, professional associations, social groups, and ethnic associations. Learn more about external scholarships!
