Sociology and social justice give you access to core issues and fundamental truths about society and culture—and the tools for understanding these issues.
While this minor is grounded in sociology, it also recognizes that numerous disciplines contribute to the study and practice of social justice. Social justice focuses on the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society where individuals’ rights are recognized and protected.
Students in this minor will learn about the historical and contemporary theories and movements of social justice and how they relate to human rights, distributive justice, and self-determination. Our faculty emphasize statistics, field research methods, and sociological concepts in their classes every day.
