Wild Careers: Animal Health & Science Course
Experience veterinary and animal health education and occupations! The WHASI (Wisconsin Health and Animal Science Initiative) summer course is a collaborative, experiential course that introduces high school juniors and seniors to regional veterinary and animal health related professions. The course is co-taught by university and private practice veterinarians and animal health professionals, veterinary students and undergraduate pre-veterinary students. Days are spent in the field engaged in aspects of large animal, small animal, wildlife, zoo and equine work, and evenings are spent in didactic and discussion based sessions geared toward reflecting on what has been experienced during the day and preparing for the upcoming days' activities. This two-credit undergraduate science course has long days, reading assignments, graded assessments, and an expectation of participation from all students and instructors. If you are a student seriously considering an animal-related profession, this course is likely to be rewarding, interesting, and incredibly fun.
