Outdoor Orientation
The first part of the Northland Orientation program is Outdoor Orientation. These trips offer incoming students the chance to get to know other new Northland students, start creating their unique relationship with the College, and make connections with student leaders all while experiencing the amazing north country environment.
We offer 5- and 14 day trips, as well as 5-day trips for fall student athletes. These trips are required for first-year students and optional for transfer students. The Northland Outdoor Orientation program is unique in the country for our committed student leadership, the wide variety of locations for trips, and our growing commitment to sustainability. We offer trips for a wide range of student experience, from novices to outdoor enthusiasts.
Some previous trips include:
- Backpacking on Isle Royale
- Sea Kayaking in the Apostle Islands
- Whitewater Kayaking on the Wolf and Red Rivers
- Backpacking in the Porcupine Mountains and more!
All Northland Outdoor Orientation trips are student led. We have a fabulous group of extremely competent leaders that undergo group facilitation, backcountry skills, and wilderness medicine training. Each year the trips are different, as students create unique experiences for each incoming class. More information will be available about specific trips by May 1, 2012.
If you have any questions regarding Orientation activities, trips, arrival dates, etc., please contact John Graetz, Orientation Coordinator at (715) 682-1823 or at orientation@northland.edu.
