Planned Giving—Gifts Tailored to the Donors’ Needs
With individuals living longer, record low interest rates, the increasing length of retirements, health care concerns, and special needs of children, many alumni and friends desiring to make a major impact on the lives of Northland College students wonder how they can achieve this goal. The answer is planned giving.
Through the use of one or more of wills, trusts, charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, retained life estates, life insurance, beneficiary designations on retirement plans, or disclaimers, planned giving provides numerous avenues to maintain your security, increase your income, reduce your income tax and estate tax liabilities, provide for loved ones, or simply maintain your current standard of living while achieving your charitable goals for Northland. While appearing complicated, these concepts are straightforward, and we have a lawyer and trained planned giving professionals on staff who can explain them to you. Moreover, our team would welcome the opportunity to work with the professional advisors on your estate planning team to help you meet your charitable goals.
This assistance can take the form of providing language for gifts through a will or trust, understandable gift presentations, calculations of income from the planned gift, determinations of possible tax savings, or just general discussions of the various planned giving vehicles and how applicable they might be to your specific situation. We are also available to make presentations to any group desiring this information.
To determine whether planned giving might be helpful in meeting your giving goals for Northland College, please contact Scott Shrode, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at 715-682-1373 or sshrode@northland.edu.
