New student email service
July 28, 2009
The Northland College IT department plans to move all student email accounts to Microsoft Live@EDU before the beginning of the 2009-2010 academic year. The shift will provide students with more server space and additional features.
“The move to the out-sourced service is part of a change that is occurring at many institutions worldwide,” explained Ray Gregor IT director, “The change will provide students with a much higher level of service and with many more features than currently provided.”
Live@EDU provides students with 10 gigabytes of inbox space and an additional 25 gigabytes of “SkyDrive” online storage. It also integrates with Windows Instant Messenger, Windows Live Writer and is accessible by mobile devices.
“Having e-mail through Microsoft Live is so much better than what was provided previously at Northland,” said Megan Greer, Northland student, “I have so much more space in my mailbox! I don’t have to keep remembering to save larger e-mails to my desktop, because this account has so much more room. I can also instant message through Microsoft Live. It is easy to use and easy to understand. All of the contacts on campus are found effortlessly as well. This is a major improvement, and I am so glad that all students will have access to it.”
