Early registration deadline Dec. 20 for Wisconsin Local Food Summit at Northland
December 13, 2012
Northland College will host the 7th Annual Wisconsin Local Food Summit on Feb. 1-2. The focus of the 2013 summit is "Common Ground: Everyone Eats!" The Wisconsin Local Food Network (WLFN) is sponsoring the event and early registration for the summit ends on Thursday, Dec. 20.
The Wisconsin Local Food Network chose the Chequamegon Bay region as the location for this year's summit because of the area's commitment to growing a local foods economy.
"This region has a vibrant local food and sustainability community and we are very pleased to be able to learn more about their exciting efforts, make connections with the individuals involved and to share ideas and develop opportunities for collaboration around the entire state of Wisconsin," said Jane Hansen, coordinator for the Wisconsin Local Food Network.
The 7th Annual Wisconsin Local Food Summit will include a keynote address from Mike Wiggins, Jr., chairman of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Wiggins will offer insight into Ojibwe harvesting methods and how spiritual considerations and treaty rights play a role in the tribe's cultural food system. Sharon Adams, program director and co-founder of Walnut Way Conservation Corporation, is also a keynote speaker for the event. Adams will recount her experiences with organizing initiatives that promote community involvement and healthier, sustainable communities.
Those interested in learning more information about the Wisconsin Local Food Summit can contact Jane Hansen. Information on how to register early is available online at www.wilocalfood.wordpress.com/summits.
