Regional representative for Congressman Sean Duffy tours GLRI projects
August 14, 2012
Members of the Chequamegon Bay Area Partnership (CBAP) guided Mary Willet, a staffer from the office of U.S. Representative Sean Duffy (R-Weston), on a tour of projects funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Tuesday. Willet looks on as Northland College student Matt Knickelbine works on the Ashland Chequamegon Bay Shoreland Restoration Project. In 2010, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources received GLRI funds to restore 4,100 feet of shoreline in the City of Ashland in collaboration with CBAP members.
"Funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) has been invaluable to the communities of the Lake Superior region," said Northland College professor Randy Lehr. "GLRI funds have supported projects that sustain the region's natural resources and provide jobs for people to do everything from cleaning and surveying our beaches to replacing decaying culverts to bringing back coaster brook trout."
Lehr coordinated GLRI funding for CBAP through Northland College. GLRI has funded more than a dozen restoration projects in the region.
