Local musician Bruce Burnside next guest on Studio Sessions
March 14, 2012
The Northland College radio station 97.7 WRNC-LP will feature local musician and Bayfield resident Bruce Burnside on the next installment of "Studio Sessions" on Friday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. Burnside will discuss the release of his 5th and newest album "For All The World to See."Burnside developed a love and interest for playing music as a child, buying his first Stella guitar for two dollars at age 12. He grew up outside of Chicago listening to electric blues musicians like Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Burnside says his mother would tell him stories about him running downstairs when he was two to listen to American country music singer Tex Ritter on the radio.
"I can't really explain it except that it's just something inside of me that when I'm part of music it's a very complete sensation," says Burnside. "I like the emotion that music transmits."
Burnside's album "For All The World to See" features songs with historical influences, as well as influences from a variety of musical genres. He says the album reflects a spiritual statement about life.
"I think people should learn something about life or themselves or the world they live in every time they can," says Burnside.
Burnside has helped create The Led Balloon Jug Band, Lost Nation String Band and Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua. In addition, he has created original music and theater pieces, including "Unsung Stories of the Civil War," "Lincoln's Living Legacy," and "The Bullfrog Banjaree," which won a Children's Music Web Award.
Burnside is also the Artistic Director of Forgotten Wisdom, a local nonprofit organization that engages students in the upper Midwest to develop skills in focus, empathy, organization and self-awareness. Forgotten Wisdom also preserves American fretted instrument styles and techniques.
To learn more about Burnside, tune in Friday at 7:30 p.m. on 97.7 WRNC-LP. Listeners can stream the show online at www.wrnclp.org. For more information on upcoming shows, call (715) 682-1664 or email md@wrnclp.org. WRNC welcomes local musicians who live in the Chequamegon Bay area to be interviewed on the program.
