Northland College launches Varsity Club to strengthen Northland Athletics
February 27, 2012
Northland College Director of Athletics Bill Wilson announces the launch of the Varsity Club, a new athletics organization seeking members to provide support to the college's athletics programs. The Varsity Club will help strengthen current intercollegiate athletic programs offered at Northland. The new organization, developed last fall, will provide members with a variety of offerings based on their level of support of athletics programs, including monthly newsletters, window decals, apparel and more.Wilson says the Northland College Varsity Club aims to enhance the profile and visibility of college athletics programs, as well as strengthen and establish positive relations with alumni and the surrounding community.
"The Varsity Club has a few main objectives, including providing financial support to our athletics programs, but we see the most important objective is to develop and build up relationships with not only our alumni, but community members and friends of the college as well," says Wilson.
Wilson sees community involvement as an important element of the Varsity Club.
"We have numerous relationships within the community and the local school district that provide an opportunity for shared facilities," says Wilson. "The Varsity Club will have monthly meetings that provide a place for everyone to come together and talk about how we can all maximize our opportunities for athletes of all ages."
Wilson also hopes the Varsity Club will enhance school spirit and enthusiasm for student athletes.
"As we elevate our athletic programs at the college, a big part of doing so includes ensuring student athletes have the resources to be successful whether it's equipment upgrades, training facilities or other additions to Northland Athletics," says Wilson.
