97.7 WRNC-LP to air candidate interviews on Ashland Mayoral Recall
October 3, 2011
WRNC will broadcast interviews conducted with candidates running for mayor of Ashland on Monday, Oct. 3. Candidates Rollie Peterson, Wendy Kloiber, Dave Sorenson, Charles Ortman and Ashland Mayor Bill Whalen were invited to share their thoughts on the recall election and issues facing the city of Ashland. Candidate interviews will be played back-to-back beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday. Listeners may also stream the broadcast live on www.wrnclp.org. The primary election will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4.
"Open dialogue on issues facing the city of Ashland is crucial to highlighting the strengths and weaknesses within city government and the elected officials who serve," says Danielle Kaeding, station manager of WRNC. "The interviews conducted offer voters one more chance to listen to candidates' stance on the state of Ashland politics and where the city is headed."
Candidates spoke on a variety of topics, including whether the recall election against Ashland Mayor Bill Whalen is warranted. Other topics discussed were communication at Ashland City Hall, the need for economic development, controversies surrounding candidates' civic service and financial liabilities facing Ashland. Audio from the interviews will be posted online at www.wrnclp.org/audio-archives.
