97.7 WRNC-LP to present 9/11 10th anniversary radio special
September 9, 2011
Northland College radio station 97.7 WRNC-LP will broadcast a special program on Monday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The program chronicles memories of 9/11 from people living and working in the Chequamegon Bay area. Public safety workers, educators, journalists, students, veterans and city leaders offer their accounts of that fateful day."People remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard about the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and crash of United Airlines Flight 93," says Danielle Kaeding, WRNC-LP Station Manager. "This program gives a voice to the shared experience of Chequamegon Bay area residents and how 9/11 has impacted the nation and world in the last decade."
Wisconsin Public Radio stations 90.9 WUWS in Ashland and 91.3 KUWS in Superior will also broadcast the program on Monday evening at 7 p.m. Listeners may also stream the program live online at www.wrnclp.org.
"[9/11] was one of those defining moments," says Anne Miller, who was teaching American Literature to sophomores at Ashland High School on Sept. 11, 2001. Miller is one of more than 10 community members who recount their memories of that day in the radio special. "The only comfort of that day is that everyone shared that. All Americans that you talk to who are of a certain age or older will remember that. It is a unifying experience because it's something we experienced together, grieved over together and we're shocked over together."
Following the program, WRNC-LP will broadcast additional radio specials recognizing the 10th anniversary of 9/11, including programs from WNYC Radio, the Peabody Award-winning Sonic Memorial Project and public radio station 88.5 WAMU in the greater Washington D.C. area.
