The Beehive Collective returns to Northland College
April 5, 2011
The Beehive Collective will visit Northland College April 11 - 12 for a series of public presentations and workshops related to mining and collaborative art-making. The Machias, Maine-based Beehive Collective works to create collaborative images that can be used as educational and organizing tools, and is perhaps best known for its large-format pen and ink graphics. The events, sponsored by the Northland College Art League, Northland College Student Association and the Student Vending Initiative and are free and open to the public.
- On Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m., the Beehive Collective will present their latest graphic, “The True Cost of Coal,” in the Alvord Theater on Northland’s campus. The graphic, developed in cooperation with Appalachian grassroots organizers working against mountain top removal coal mining, reflects the complexity of the struggles for land, livelihood and self-determination playing out in Appalachia.
- On Tuesday, April 12 at 6 p.m., The Beehive Collective will facilitate a collaborative art making and screen printing workshop in the screen printing studio of the Mary Van Evera Visual Arts Center. Attendees will leave the workshop with a print of their own creation and a better knowledge of how to work collaboratively with others to produce art, as well as a working knowledge of screen printing.
