Northland College names new Dean of Faculty and V.P. of Academic Affairs
February 28, 2012
Cheryl Contant has been appointed Dean of Faculty and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Northland College. Contant, who has been working in System Academic Administration at the University of Minnesota, will begin serving as Northland's Dean of Faculty on July 1, 2012.
Contant comes to Northland with experience at both public and private liberal arts colleges and larger universities. She has developed new academic programs and enhanced partnerships between communities and educational institutions, among other academic initiatives. In addition, she has authored or co-authored more than 30 academic publications, the most recent of which appeared in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
"I am thrilled to be named Northland's new Dean of Faculty," says Contant. "I'm looking forward to working with the outstanding faculty, staff and students at Northland. The opportunity for me to link liberal arts education to my passion for and academic background in environmental protection is just a dream come true for me. Also, to be a member of an exceptional faculty and leadership team is both humbling and very exciting."
Northland College President Michael A. Miller says the college will benefit from Contant's broad range of experience in education.
"Cheryl's 25 years of teaching and scholarship in environmental sciences and planning, complete with 12 years of administrative experience, make her a worthy and welcome addition to the Northland community," says Northland College President Michael A. Miller. "I am confident that Cheryl will help us continue advancing the remarkable work we've been doing."
President Miller also recognized those on the hiring committee that helped narrow the search for the next Dean of Faculty and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Northland.
"I want to thank Erica Hannickel and Bob Jackson, chairs, and the entire committee for their good work and long hours throughout this search," says Miller.
