Although Northland's campus does have plenty of chemical-free lawns for lounging and impromptu games of Ultimate Frisbee, large areas of campus have been restored to native plant communities. The college is working to bring the distinct flavor of northern Wisconsin habitats into its grounds to further connect the campus to its surroundings. The distinct fragrance of the white pine, the graceful waves of grasses and wildflowers, the songs of indigenous birds...these and other details add up to create a distinct and memorable impression-a "sense of place."
