Finding an Internship or Field Experience
There are five main resources that students have used to find internships or field experiences:
1. Faculty or Advisors-Northland's faculty members are many times engaged in their own research or have professional connections with opportunities for students.2. Northland College's Internship and Field Experience Partners - Northland College creates opportunities that are exclusive for our students, and posts them on internships.com. To view all available positions, go to internships.com to register:
- Click on "Sign Up for Free" in the upper right hand corner of any page.
- Complete the form by entering your first and last name, email, and create a password.
- Make sure to select our school location and school name from the My Profile area under "Education" once you have registered. We are listed as Northland College.
3. Friends and Family-Using your personal network of
contacts is a great way to get a foot in the door with an organization. Visit
the networking website for more information on this.
4. Web-based Search Engines-Many of the job and internship
search engines, including all federal opportunities, can be found at Northland
College Job and Internship Search.
5. Annual Job and Internship Fair-Over sixty organizations attend
the fair each year, many with multiple internship opportunities. The 2012-2013
fair will be held on Thursday, February 7th in the Ponzio Campus
Center. Watch your email and mailboxes for more information about who will be
there!
If you can't find an opportunity that fits your
professional goals, sometimes we are able to create a customized internship for
you. To explore all options, contact
Stacy Craig, Coordinator of Applied Learning, at scraig@northland.edu or (715) 682-1232.
