Loon Ranger Training WorkshopMay 4, 2013 Location Information LoonWatch and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource’s Northwood’s Loon Protection Program (NLPP) will host a training opportunity for Loon Rangers and NLPP Citizen Scientists. This introductory training will include classroom presentations on loon behavior, ecology, and habitat, a step-by-step introduction to the Annual Lakes loon monitoring program; what you can do to protect loons.

Darby Nelson has a Ph.D. in aquatic ecology from the University of Minnesota. He taught biology and environmental science to college students for 35 years and did contract writing in environmental science for McGraw-Hill Publishers. Nelson served three terms as a Minnesota state legislator and served on the Lessard/Sams Outdoor Heritage Council. He currently serves on the boards of Conservation Minnesota and the Freshwater Society. Darby has published magazine articles on environmental topics and received many conservation and teaching awards and For Love of Lakes is his first book. Search for nesting loons and other birds on Lake Namekagon during this pontoon trip led by staff from the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute’s Project LoonWatch and the Cable Natural History Museum.
Learn all about loons, threats totheir populations, and what you can do to help them survive, all while soaking up the birds and scenery of the Chequamegon National Forest.
