Water Safety
Worried about the safety of tap water? Well, most tap water is just as clean and safe (or more) as bottled water. The EPA requires multiple daily tests for bacteria and makes results available to the public. On the other hand, the FDA, which regulates bottled water, only requires weekly testing and does not share its findings with the public. To find out how safe your drinking water is, go to http://www.epa.gov/safewater/dwinfo/index.html. Read More

No matter what the season, Northland College is covered in green. In 1998, students built the Strawbale Energy Demonstration Lab, an off-the-grid building powered by a small wind turbine and photovoltaic array, and heated through passive solar design with in-floor heat from solar hot water panels. The MELLC, Northland's environmentally conscious residence hall, was built with a variety of recycled products and energy efficient materials, and was a prototype in the development of the U.S. Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system. Northland has committed to attain at least LEED Silver certification on all new buildings and major renovations. The Dexter Library is Northland's first LEED certified building and is certified at the Gold level.
