Profile
There is no ‘one’ favorite thing that has brought me to Northland College: it’s the people I work with, the students, the location (the Lake Superior area sets a bungee cord in you and you’ll always return), the weather, and much more. My current research looks at the role of context in meaning and understanding, and at its effects in the present 'culture wars'. I've recently read Master and Commander, watched the DVD of Kill Bill II (liked Kill Bill I better), and crewed aboard a 137' three-masted schooner. I believe the students get a unique education here because of the college’s small size and the quality of the instructors. (And because I’m here!) How I became a philosophy professor is quite simply because I tried so many other things that I couldn’t help but eventually stumble upon my passion for the study of philosophy. I enjoy aikido, road cycling, and bocce.
