Christopher J. Owen joined the Northland College Board of Trustees in 2010. Chris is the Founder, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Apprise Technologies; an environmental, process control and aerospace sensor and control company (sold to Ecolab Corporation in 2007). He holds 16 patents pertaining to sensor development and/or environmental monitoring as well as having 15 peer reviewed publication on environmental topics such as large lake limnology, technology utilization in remote ecological monitoring and environmental chemical analysis method development. Prior to forming Apprise, Chris was a Research Scientist at the University of Minnesota Natural Resources Research Institute. Chris serves on the Boards of several high-tech startup companies, including Chairman of Separation Kinetics, a bio-fuels/fuel cell technology company located in the Minneapolis area. Chris and his wife, Bethany, have become involved with Northland through the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute, collaborating with interns conducting restoration work at the Owen\'s Brickyard Creek property in Bayfield, WI.
