Name: Biagio Nigrelli
Hometown: Kiel, Wisconsin
Area of Study: Outdoor Education, Natural History
Expected Graduation Date: 2011
My favorite band is: Ben Folds
My favorite food: anything homemade
I chose Northland College because: the great atmosphere that surrounds the campus and the courses that are offered at Northland.
The community at Northland College is: spontaneous, improvised! There are always different events happening and everyone is invited. Northland is a family, in a way everyone shares characteristics, and a love for the people.
The friends I've made at Northland are: going to stay with me for a long time. Bonds are made here very quickly and, because of the experiences like Outdoor Education, establish a personal connection.
My favorite class is: the entire Superior Connections Program. I love the engagement of the variety of environmental and cultural issues. It directly relates to the Lake Superior Watershed, giving me an opportunity to be hands on with the topics that concern people in the area.
When I'm not in class, you might find me: spending time outside with friends, either playing some "hack", or ultimate Frisbee. At the pool kayaking or in the ravine.
The greatest thing about living here is: the people. A college is nothing with out the people. When I first got here, where ever I walked I received a "Hi" and a smile. Even outside the campus, Ashland is a town you can stroll around and just find a place to explore.
My Eco-Visionary Pledge is: posted and kept with pleasure and satisfaction.
When I enrolled at Northland College, I didn't think: I would come to know the professors as well as I do today. They find time for students and always have a smile.
The most surprising thing about the Northland faculty is: their dedication to the education of the students. They’re always willing to change around schedules if they don’t fit. And acknowledge that Frisbee is more important than class some days.
The best advice I could give students thinking about college is: look for a place that is mentally stimulating as well as aesthetically pleasing. And follow your gut feeling not your friends.
After I graduate: I am unsure what I want to pursue while continuing to investigate my love for wilderness.
