Transfer Tips

Be sure to include all transcripts when applying for admission. Even if you did not receive credit, we need official records from every college that you attended. By submitting all transcripts, you allow us to provide you with the most accurate credit evaluation.

File for financial aid. Financial aid does not transfer from institution to institution. When filling out the FAFSA, be sure to include Northland College’s school code (003875). By submitting all necessary forms, you may qualify for additional funding that would lower the overall cost of attending Northland College.

Prepare a Transfer Plan. Begin by identifying a major that corresponds with your chosen career field. There are many courses which transfer from one college or university to another, but your ability to apply those courses to your major will depend on whether or not they fit into your college or university’s degree plan. Plan carefully; changing majors can result in lost credit hours. Transferring works best for students who get information about the major they want to follow and then match the required freshman and sophomore course work as closely as possible prior to transferring.

Visit campus. As a general rule, you should not make a decision about the four-year college you plan to attend without a campus visit. College websites and brochures are produced to give you an idea of what the institution offers —you have to decide if it is the right fit for you. Through a visit, you can get a sense of what to expect and begin preparing for a new academic experience. If you visit Northland, take advantage of what we can offer. Tour campus, sit in on a class, and meet with a faculty member in your desired major. Also, while visiting our campus, be sure to connect with current students to see why they chose Northland.

Know your housing options. While we do not require all students to live on campus, it is important for you to know what is available to you. Check out our housing options  section for more options on living arrangements while you attend Northland College.
