"Thematic living" is the goal of Northland's Theme Houses, which are each centered around a theme the residents share with the rest of the campus communtiy.  Since these houses are student initiated and perpetuated, with faculty support, the themes can often change.

Currently, there are four theme houses on campus:

• Gaia's Cradle, the gender issues house
• Solomon's Ring, the psychology/animal behavior house
• ECcO Haus, a residence focusing on sustainable living;
• Sunshine Community House, headquarters for the Sunshine Community Club.

These houses are located on the perimeter of campus, in an ELLC apartment, and in Townhouse #1.
