Required Health Insurance

Northland College is committed to promoting good health to ensure our students' academic success. It is for this reason that our students are protected against loss of medical care by a basic student injury and sickness plan, underwritten by United Health Care Student Resources.

Students taking 12 credits or more (except for Youth Option and Evening Degree Completion students) will be automatically enrolled in this plan as part of tuition. The plan’s effective dates are August 1, 2008-July 31, 2009. Insurance cards will be mailed directly to each student’s Northland College address.

Due to possible eligibility infringements, the following students may opt out of this plan:

  • Students currently insured under Badger Care
  • Students currently insured under Tribal Care
  • Student currently insured under GAMP (pertains to residents of Milwaukee)
  • Students currently insured through a health care savings account (where the student is the primary insured)

To opt out, students must complete a waiver form available through the Northland College Business Office, by September 8, 2008. Given that the student insurance premium is included in the cost of tuition, no refund will be applied to those who opt out.

Students are eligible to purchase additional coverage to enhance this basic health plan. Payment for the additional coverage is made directly to United Health Care Student Resources. For more information regarding enhanced plans, go to the UHCSR website listed below.

Go to “find my school’s plan”. Select Northland College. You will see a brochure, temporary insurance cards, enrollment form, and continuation form. Students can also create their account to print insurance cards, view claims and find directories of providers.

On-Campus Physician

A physician from the Main Street Clinic comes to campus Thursday afternoons starting at 1:30 p.m. Visits to see the on-campus physician are billed to the student health insurance plan.
