Meeker is a source on wetland vegetation. He is currently involved in multiple wetland vegetation studies. Some of the areas include Voyageurs National Park, Isle Royal National Park, Lake Ontario, Lake Superior, Bad River/Kakagon and the Apostle Islands.

He is also an expert on wild rice. His doctorate work focused on the ecology of wild rice. He is currently researching the impact invasive plant life has on wild rice in Voyageurs National Park. He also published a paper for Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission that looked at the ecology of wild rice.

Professional achievements and/or current responsibilities:

Meeker is associate professor of natural resources at Northland College in Ashland, Wis. His course load includes The Vegetation of the Great Lakes Region, Vegetation Management, Habitat Sampling and Data Analysis, Wetlands, Woodland Plants and Introduction to Natural Resources. He is currently working on 8 separate research projects. These projects include; restoration of vegetation structure in Voyageurs National Park, aquatic macrophyte monitoring in Isle Royal National Park, assessment and monitoring for vegetation change in Lake Ontario’s coastal wetlands, vegetation characterization in Lake Superior coastal peatlands, Apostle Island wetland monitoring, and northern forest restoration.

Meeker has served on the Society for Wetland Scientists, Natural Areas Association, and Michigan Botanical Society.

He has been an invited speaker at numerous events including the 10th Annual Wetland Science Forum, the Wisconsin Association of Environmental Educators Fall Forum, Natural Areas Conference, and Lake Superior National Park Research Conference.
